Alan Templeton, sergeant of detectives in the small city of Salt Lake, has a mess on his hands. He and his team are investigating two series of murders that he is convinced are somehow linked. They are very unusual, however. In some of the killings--ritualistic sacrifices--there is no evidence left behind by the murderers, while on the others there is an orgy of evidence that makes no sense.
